Sara's Interview - Podcast with Small Business Consultant

On January 5th I had the wonderful opportunity to be interviewed by small business consultant, Sue Whitaker, owner of the The Business Lovemaker and talk show host. Sue and I worked together on her branding and new Business Lovemaker website. During the project, she asked if I would be a guest on her radio show knowing her nationwide listener base would receive some business insight since they are generally entrepreneurs.

Sue interviewed me for 1 hour asking me about my background, my inspiration, how I balance my right and left brain with the type of work I do, tips for business owners and web development, and more. Take a moment to listen to my podcast about business* and keep your ears peeled for a little gift for you at the end. If you have some feedback, please comment below (this is my first interview since being on NPR and CNN for my women's surf shop in 1997, so I was a little nervous).

Healing art exhibit and art opening

Voice (5th Chakra)

After a year in the making, my "Healing" art series will be on display at Riverside Studios starting Thursday, January 5th through the end of February 2012. An opening reception will be taking place on Friday, January 6th from 4 to 6pm at Riverside Studios in downtown Truckee, CA at 10060 Donner Pass Road. It is free and open to the public.

About My "Healing" Art series:

My Healing art reflects my path of trying to find emotional, spiritual and physical healing through art, many alternative healing modalities, and mindfulness. Through these works, I experiment with what a certain thought or feeling truly feels like. I then paint those first thoughts/feelings in colorful, textured layers. It is a very abstract process that requires a lot of quiet and inner exploration so I can "see" what colors and shapes really come to mind when thinking of a particular issue.

Second, I paint what I feel I need to help me heal by adding other colors and textures that evoke a healing thought. Finally, I add the last layers. These layers are my visual reminders of what I need to see to remember what it feels like to feel healed and whole. Included in this series are the more abstract pieces called "Strength," "Voice," "The Royal Feminine," and "Soul” that show this layered, healing technique.

Love My BikeAlso included in this series are some still life and animals artworks including “Arctic Owl,"  “Love My Bike," “Abundance,” “Harmony,” “Peace,” and “Love.”  These depict my healing connection to different power animals (owls and falcons) and fun toys, (such as my mountain bike) as well as some cups I painted when I felt like I was in need of something.

Artworks on Display At New Moon

Origin of Species 1

Over the years I have dabbled with different mediums on paper. Now on display at New Moon Natural Foods in Truckee is a collection of my works entitled, "Works on Paper." There hang 12 works spanning from 2004 to 2011 ranging from mixed media to oil pastel, to collage, to India Ink and watercolor, to watercolor and colored pencil, to acrylic- all works done on paper.

This body of work was fun to create because of how versatile paper is. Paper itself is a less "toothy" substrate so acrylics easily glide and goop whereas they tend to adhere faster on canvas. Paper lends itself to mutli-media better where watercolors can first be laid done and then can be layered with ink, oil pastel, and colored pencil.

Mindscape at Home

All of these works depict different subjects, from abstracts, to healing, to bikes with falcons, to the origins of earth.

These works will be on display at New Moon Natural Foods, 11357 Donner Pass Rd # C  Truckee, CA 96161-4964,  from now throughout December. To purchase these works or for more information, please contact me.
